Arnold Clark West Regional League 2 – Match Report
Wigtownshire RFC 73 – 5 Uddingston RFC
Wigtownshire RFC delivered a scintillating attacking performance on Saturday, dismantling Uddingston RFC 73-5 in a one-sided affair at home. Despite Uddingston's early dominance in the scrum, Wigtownshire's ability to adapt and unleash their dynamic backline proved the difference as they ran in eleven tries.
The match saw notable moments, including first senior caps for Tyler Beswick and Tino as well as the welcome return of Mark Burgess to the squad after a few years away.
First Half
The game started at a blistering pace, with James McGarvie cutting through the Uddingston defence to score in the 2nd minute, setting the tone for Wigtownshire’s attacking intent.
Mark McColm weaved his way through defenders for a second try in the 10th minute, extending the lead to 10-0 before Uddingston hit back with a well-worked forward-driven try at the 22-minute mark (10-5).
However, this was as close as the visitors would get. Jason McKie then took centre stage, bagging two tries in the 25th and 35th minutes, both successfully converted, to put Wigtownshire firmly in control (24-5).
Just before halftime, McGarvie crossed for his second, rounding off a dominant first period, with Wigtownshire heading into the break at 31-5.
Second Half
If the first half was impressive, the second was simply devastating.
Scott Forsyth opened the floodgates at 50 minutes (38-5), before McKie secured his hat-trick just five minutes later (45-5).
From then on, it was one-way traffic:
Sam Mitchell (57’)
Neil Forsyth (60’ & 65’)
Mark Pirrie (70’)
All crossed the whitewash, with every try converted by Blair Forsyth taking the final score to 73-5.
Match Summary
While Uddingston showed their strength in the scrum early on, Wigtownshire adapted quickly, making necessary changes to their pack to counteract the pressure. Their lineout functioned effectively, and in open play, they were simply unstoppable. Quick ball, offloads, and clinical finishing from the backs ensured an emphatic victory.
